Photo Contests

Many club members submit entries to various local, national, and international competitions, so this page should provide a good starting place to identify potential contests to enter. And, if you haven't tried entering contests before, now's a good time to start! You'll learn from the experience and may even win enough money to buy some film or a new storage disk -- or hit the big time and get published in a national or international magazine!

Based on a recent Google search, the number of websites offering photo contests is astronomical, and very time-consuming to glean useful information from. The links below are a start. I have tried to eliminate most of the cute-baby and cute-pet contests, contests that are not professionally judged, those tied to sites that require paid membership, contests that require that winners relinquish copyrights, and contests that do not offer financial or product prizes or publication in a prestigious magazine. I have included some annual contests even though the closing dates for this year have passed; if you're interested, you can gear up for next year's contest.

Second annual "Soul of a River" Photography Competition. Photographers are invited to submit entries in any photographic medium depicting the outstanding natural, historic, scenic and recreational features that have qualified the Lower Delaware River for inclusion into the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. Proceeds benefit the river advocacy and education programs of the DRGP.

The Soul of A River Opening Show, to be held Saturday, October 30 at Prallsville Mill, will commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Lower Delaware National Wild and Scenic River Designation, which was signed into law by President Clinton in November 2000.

Photographs may be dropped of at the DRGP office on Rt. 29 just south of Frenchtown. Entry dropoff dates: October 6th and 7th 9 AM-5 PM; October 12th, 3th, and 15th 9 AM-1 PM.; October 17th 1-6 PM.

The Photography Competition 2005 is an international photography contest organized by TCB-Cafe Publishing of San Francisco. The contest aims to develop and raise the visibility of photographic and creative talent, in the form of a competition and the resulting book publication and exhibition.

The 2005 competition has two new themes:

  • Orchid Chic: Passion, Fashion & Orchids
  • Sand: The Human Form in a Formless Medium

Assignment: America. Issuing a call to all passionate photographers, Eastman Kodak Company is challenging professional and advanced amateur photographers to "Capture America on America's Favorite Film" as part of its first "Assignment America" contest. Kodak will place images from the winners on the famed Kodarama photo screen in New York City's Times Square with prominent photographer credit during January 2004. What's more, Popular Photography & Imaging magazine will publish the winning photos in its January 2004 issue and winners will enjoy a photo exhibition in his or her hometown, in addition to other prizes.
